The Story of Maurilio Vaira Tenuta del Barone
From the land to the cellar an endless passion.
Would you like to know the history of Maurilio Vaira Tenuta del Barone? Here is a little glimpse, and if you are interested, you can ask Maurilio and Bruna for all the strangest and most curious stories that the estate hides in its foundations. The farmhouse was built in Vergne by the Barons DEFANTI of Cherasco in the early 18th century, as a delightful holiday home, given the cool climate in summer and mild in winter.
Before dying out, they donated it to the Countess of Gallaman. Before her death, she too donated the house and land to the Somaschi Fathers of Cherasco and then to the Vaira family. In 1969 it was purchased by father Vaira Francesco and mother Aragno Giovanna, Maurilio Vaira's parents.
Over the centuries, winegrowers prior to 1969 have always worked in farmsteads owned by our ancestors, between the municipalities of Barolo and Cherasco.
We are making an effort to search for more documents dating back to the years before 1500, which testify in writing to our long history as winegrowers and producers, already well documented and still in our Vaira family for 16 generations.
Maurilio and Bruna will be happy to show you the rediscovered writings, to immerse you in a unique and fascinating story.

If you talk to Maurilio and ask how hard the work of a winegrower is, remembering also the teachings of his father Talin, here he almost enunciates a philosophy of life:
Tradition, the love of the land to be respected and cultivated with commitment, to know every row of vines, every vine; the commitment of work in the cellar cannot distract us from what is most important in the world: building relationships and opportunities to meet with our relatives and friends.
Yes, for us, the customer who comes to get to know the company is immediately a welcome guest, and after a few tastings in the company he becomes a new friend whom we always gladly see again for a new purchase or a simple visit.
The 'Ci Sta' chair in memory of our beloved Samuel
The Giant Chair 'Ci Sta' is a tribute in memory of our beloved Samuel, built following the first chair installed in Novello in 2020 and accessible to all.
A symbol of affection, memory and sharing that invites everyone to stop, sit down and feel part of something big, admiring our vineyards and the extraordinary landscape of the Langhe, which he loved so much.
Future projects
In time, given the high demand and, fortunately, the great availability of the farmhouse, we plan to make it possible for people to stay there.
So we are waiting for you to get to know each other, spend some time in joy, discover the estates and taste our wines !
